Over recent years there has been a revolution in spectacle lens design & manufacture. Modern material and digital design mean that lenses of all powers can now be thin and attractive. At the forefront of this revolution is the French company Essilor.
We are proud to be associated with award winning Essilor lenses, the producers of the original Varilux lens since 1952. We believe it is still the best product on the market.
** We are currently (from March to October) offering a second pair of coated lenses at 50% off ** (see our OFFERS page for more details)
Varilux S Series – voted lens product of the year 2013
Varilux S Series is the latest design of the world’s most popular varifocal brand and uses the latest digital technologies to give you vision that’s as much as 50% wider than before. When you’re on the move, you’ll also see that the ‘swim’ effect all but disappears.
It makes adaptation to Varilux S Series lenses quicker and easier than ever, so whether you’re new to varifocals, or have been happily wearing them for years, Varilux S Series lenses are well worth a look.
Varilux Physio 2.0
Choosing Varilux Physio 2.0 is like buying a full HD TV, when you’ve always had a standard television. Varilux Physio 2.0 lenses bring noticeably crisper details and heightened contrast, even in low light.
Varilux Physio 2.0 lenses are designed for any prescription and adjust to every type of frame, even fashionable shallow ones.
The design of Varilux Comfort New Edition has recently been updated to give you broader fields of vision and help ensure that clear vision is maintained at all distances. You’ll also enjoy smooth and simple eye movement between long, medium and near vision.
Near vision is strengthened so that small objects are easier to see. You can also keep a comfortable posture when working on a computer. Varilux Comfort is the most widely-prescribed varifocal lens design in the world today.
Varilux Ultra lenses offer clear vision at any distance with easy adaptation in a very affordable lens. Their design uses Essilor’s exclusive Live Optics R & D programme, which models lens designs on how wearers use their spectacles in daily life. It follows a full evaluation of the design through detailed wearer tests.
If you’re on a budget, Varilux Ultra lenses are well worth investigating.
Bifocals use designs that have generally been superseded by Varilux, though some people prefer to stay with them. We offer different designs for different needs.
Bifocals offer clear distance and near vision but do not cover intermediate vision (at arms’ length).
Single vision lenses
As their name suggests, single vision lenses correct vision at a single distance, usually near or far vision. Computer-controlled design and manufacturing systems, allied to developments in dispensing and measuring, mean that modern single vision lenses offer clearer vision in a thinner, lighter lens.
Further developments in lens material technology mean that even if you only have a moderate prescription, you should look high-index materials like Lineis 1.74, Stylis 1.67 or Ormix 1.6 which give thinner lightweight lenses.
Crizal UV lenses
Crizal UV lenses give the clearest vision in the toughest lens coating.
Anti-reflection lenses don’t just stop your eyes being hidden behind unsightly reflections, they also put a stop to the glare from oncoming headlights or a computer monitor at work. Crizal UV lenses banish these annoying reflections.
Their surface is so slippery that everyday dust and dirt, as well as fingerprints and smudges, can’t get a grip on them, so they stay cleaner for longer. When you clean your spectacles too, they don’t create the static that attracts dust.
Not all the benefits are visible. Crizal UV lenses also filter out 100% of UV rays, so they’re the healthy option too.
Best of all, Crizal Forte UV lenses are so tough that we give a free, two-year, no-quibble guarantee against scratches.
Lenses at work
Reflections from office lighting and computer monitors can cause our eyes to have to work harder and so, more likely to tire. With Crizal UV lenses, reflections are almost totally eliminated, making work much less tiring. If you work (or are to start working) on computers, you are legally entitled to free sight tests, paid for by your employer.
If you wear reading or Varilux spectacles, Varilux Computer or InterView lenses may help too. They have been designed to give wide reading and arms’ length vision, so that your desk area, that you most need to be in focus, is sharp.
If you work outdoors, you should consider Transitions Signature lightweight photochromic lenses. They quickly darken and lighten again and filter out damaging UV radiation. If coming indoors again causes lens fogging, ask us about Optifog lenses.
If your job requires eye protection, Airwear lenses are a must. While Airwear lenses might look just like any other, they are the most impact-resistant lenses available.
If your job involves driving you should consider Crizal UV lenses. They banish the glare from headlights and street lighting that can make night driving so tiring for your eyes.
